Kavalier & Clay (outtakes)

Here are a few of the rejected cover designs that I created for the repackaging of the paperback of Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It’s one of my very favorite books of all time. (It constantly jockeys for first place with Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles and Glen David Gold’s Carter Beats the Devil. ) These rejected covers have a range of ideas, including a wrap-around cover and spine intended to dimensionally imply the Empire State Building (with Kavalier & Clay burning the midnight oil in their office), and an imaginary photo-collage skyline that forms the Escapist’s logo when you look towards the sky.
