Michael Chabon’s novel, Telegraph Avenue, is a great read full of complex relationships, and fun subject matter. (What? Another great read from Chabon? Somehow I’m not surprised… ) The story itself deals with the interweaving lives of a handful of people living in Northern California whose passions revolve around a world of music and film. This includes the denizens of a fledgling record store being threatened by a big chain store that’s moving into the neighborhood, and a bereft father-figure who is still trying to live off his past-life as a 70’s blaxploitation action star. I designed a number of covers for this title, and have included a few here. As much as I loved this book, and as much as I liked many of these designs, sometimes these projects just don’t work out. The publisher went a different direction with the hardcover edition. That being said, Telegraph Avenue is classic Chabon, and a great read.
